Midvaal Local Municipality invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for their Fire Fighter Internship Programme vacancies. The closing date for applications is 24 October 2025.


What the Internships Are All About

The Fire Fighter Internship Programme is a three‑year job that trains you to protect people, homes and businesses from fire danger. You’ll start off working with the local fire brigade in Meyerton, Gauteng, and learn everything from checking your fire trucks to running rescue drills. The internship pays a competitive stipend of R8,786.58 a month (about R105,439 a year) so you can earn money while you learn. Only 12 places are available, so you’ll need to act fast if you want a spot.

Who Can Apply?

To be considered, you need to meet the basic checklists below.

What You’ll Be Doing Daily

  • Arrive on time – report each shift to the Station Officer.
  • Check your gear – make sure the fire truck and tools are ready.
  • Keep equipment clean – wipe down hoses, helmets and cars.
  • Fix problems – tell supervisors if something is broken or unsafe.
  • Help put out fires – follow senior staff to fight grass, woodland and building fires.
  • Protect life and property – keep people safe from fire hazards.
  • Run rescue drills – help get people out when situations are dangerous.
  • Off‑call tasks – sometimes help in the control room or with other senior duties.
