SARAO Engineering & Science Graduate Internship 2026 | Apply Now

SARAO Invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for their Graduate‑In‑Training vacancies. The closing date for applications is the 15 November 2025.

What is SARAO?

The South African Radio Astronomy Observatory (SARAO) is a top science laboratory that looks up at the sky with powerful radio dishes. It is run by the National Research Foundation (NRF). If you love engineering, physics or computer science, SARAO gives you a chance to start an exciting career in astronomy and technology.

The Graduate‑In‑Training (GIT) Programme

  • Start date: 1 March 2026
  • Length: 3 years
  • Where you’ll work: Cape Town (Western Cape), Karoo Support Base, Klerefontein (Northern Cape) and Hartebeesthoek (Gauteng).
  • Why it matters: You get paid, you learn on the job, and you can study for a Master’s degree part‑time with money from SARAO.

How the selection works

  1. All who make it to the final round must finish a short online test.
  2. Once selected, you will be assigned to one of SARAO’s South Africa sites that fits the work at hand.
  3. SARAO will pay for part‑time Master’s courses, so you can grow academically while gaining real work experience.

Are you eligible?

SARAO is looking for South African citizens who are either finished or heading into the last year of studies in one of these fields:

  • Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Civil Engineering (BEng/BScEng)
  • Computer Science (BEng/BScEng or BSc(Hons))
