The Northern Cape Provincial Government invites qualified applicants to apply for the Premier’s Bursary Programme. The closing date for applications is 31 October 2025.
Does this bursary sound like you?
- You’re 18‑30 years old
- You live in the Northern Cape
- You’re a South African citizen
- You’re looking to study full‑time at a recognised university or college
This bursary is a chance to fund the first qualification you’ll earn. It works for everyone—from current high‑school students to young adults who have finished school but haven’t yet started university.
Who qualifies to apply?
| Category | Who fits it? |
|---|---|
| Current Grade 12 learners | You’re finishing secondary school |
| Youth who have finished Grade 12 but not yet studied | You’re waiting for a university decision |
| Students already enrolled | You’re attending a registered higher‑education institution |
The bursary is open to all subjects, but there is a special emphasis on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields because the province needs talent in those areas.
What will you need to apply?
- A completed application form – every required field and attachment
- Proof you live in the Northern Cape – ID copy or utility bill
- Proof you’re a South African citizen – birth certificate or ID
- Proof you’re accepted or enrolled at a registered university or college
- A short statement about why you want this bursary – keep it clear and personal
- Supporting documents for financial need – recent payslips, tax returns, or a household income form
The Office of the Premier will review your materials and look at things like:
- Your race, gender and which district you come from
- Whether you have a disability – we give priority to these applicants
- Your academic record – grades, test scores
- How low your household income is
How much will you receive?
Your bursary depends on how much your household earns. Let’s look at the options:
| Household Income | Bursary Amount |
|---|---|
| R0 – R350 000 | R120 000 |
| R350 001 – R550 000 | R100 000 |
| R550 001 – R800 000 | R80 000 |
If your household income is above R800 000, you may still be eligible for a smaller amount – but it isn’t guaranteed.
The total number of bursaries will match the budget the Premier’s office has for the 2025 academic year. So the sooner you apply, the better your chances!
