About Bakwena
Bakwena Platinum Corridor Concessionaire (Pty) Ltd – or just Bakwena – builds and keeps the busiest roads on the N1 and N4 highways safe and reliable. It also cares about the people living near those roads, especially when it comes to school and university.
What’s a Bursary?
A bursary is money that helps students pay for university. It isn’t a loan, so you don’t have to pay it back. Bakwena’s 2026 Bursary Programme is aimed at students who are already doing well in their studies but need extra support to keep going.
Who Can Apply?
To get the Bakwena bursary you must meet these simple rules:
- You must be a South African citizen.
- You need to be registered at a recognised South African university.
- It helps if you live within 6 km of the N1 or N4 route that Bakwena works on.
- Your overall university average must be at least 60 %.
- You must already be in your second year or higher when you apply.
- Your application form has to be completely filled out and you must attach the required documents.
Documents You Need
Make sure you send these certified documents with your application:
- A motivation letter that tells us why you deserve the bursary.
- A certified copy of your first‑year university results.
- A certified copy of your South African ID.
- A certified proof of where you live.
How to Apply

- Fill out the official application form in full.
- Attach the certified documents listed above.
