City of Polokwane Invites You to Apply for the 2026 External Bursary Programme – Deadline 05 December 2025

The City of Polokwane is looking for bright, hardworking students who need help paying for college. If you are living in the city, are a South African citizen, and come from a family that struggles to make ends meet, you can apply for the External Bursary Programme for the 2026 Academic Year. The last day to send in your paperwork is 05 December 2025.


Who Can Apply?

RequirementWhat it Means
Grade 12 student or recent graduateYou should be in your final year of high school or have finished it last year.
Enrolled in a university or collegeYou must be taking a first degree, a National Diploma, or a National N Diploma at a recognised, accredited school (not a private college).
Lives in PolokwaneYou must be a permanent resident of the city’s municipality.
From a disadvantaged backgroundThe bursary is only for people who face financial hardship.
South African citizenProof of your ID is needed.
No other bursary at the momentYou should not be receiving money from another scholarship program.

If you meet all of these points, you’re eligible to apply. When you get the bursary, you’ll have to sign a Bursary Agreement with the Municipality.


What Papers Do You Need?

You must submit certified copies of these documents when you fill out the application form.

  1. ID – Your South African ID card.
  2. Grade 12 results or certificate – If you are still a Grade 12 student, send your latest results.
  3. Parent or Guardian ID – One of your parents or guardians must provide their ID.
  4. Letter of acceptance – A provisional offer from a recognised university or college (no private schools).
  5. Proof of residence – A recent utility bill (not older than three months) or a letter from your local authority.
  6. Proof of income – If your parents work, give a certified proof of their earnings. If they’re unemployed, you can provide an affidavit. If you receive a pension or a SASSA grant, send that proof too.
  7. Additional documents if needed
    • Divorce decree (if parents are divorced).
    • Death certificate (if a parent has died).
    • Medical documents (if you have a disability).

All documents must be certified, meaning they’re signed by a sworn officer or a public authority that confirms they’re real.


How to Submit Your Application

You can pick up the application form from several City of Polokwane offices:

  • City Centre and Cluster Offices (Seshego, Sebayeng, Aganang, Molepo, Mankweng, Chuene, Maja)
  • Human Resource Development SBU (Office 905 & 903, Cnr Landros Mare and Bodenstein Streets)

Alternatively, download the form from the City’s website if they offer a PDF.
Once you have it, fill it in carefully, attach all required documents, and hand it back to the office or mail it as instructed.
