Salary Packages (OSD)

The salary for each grade is set by the Occupational Specific Dispensation (OSD). The exact figure you receive will depend on how many years you have worked, the OSD rules, and what the HR office confirms.

Minimum Requirements

Core Professional Needs

  • A qualification that allows you to register with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner.
  • A current, valid HPCSA registration.
  • Foreign‑qualified doctors must bring a SAQA evaluation or similar certification before the interview.

Experience by Grade

  • Grade 1: No extra experience after your HPCSA registration.
  • Grade 2: At least 5 years of relevant work.
  • Grade 3: At least 10 years of relevant work.

What You Will Do

  • Give quality, patient‑focused medical care.
  • Check, diagnose and treat patients, including in emergency departments.
  • Be on call for after‑hours emergencies.
  • Help train and supervise medical students, interns and junior doctors.
  • Take part in academic meetings, ward rounds and journal clubs.
  • Carry out administrative duties when needed.
  • Attend workshops and training sessions.
  • Follow all department policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Always look for ways to improve the quality and safety of care.
