What is a learnership?
A learnership is a mix of school and on‑the‑job training. You’ll study in a classroom for a few months and then work with professionals for the rest of the year. At the end, you’ll earn a national qualification (NQF level) that employers recognize.
Who can join?
| Requirement | What you need |
|---|---|
| ID | A clear, colour copy of your ID |
| School certificate | Grade 12 (or NQF 4 for the electrical course) |
| Age | 18 to 35 |
| Willingness to move | You must be able to relocate for the classroom portion |
| CV | A short resume that shows your name, school, and any relevant hobbies |
If you haven’t done any work before, that’s fine. These programs are for people who want to learn.
What will you earn while you learn?
Every learner receives a monthly stipend of R3,500. It’s meant to help with transport, food and living costs during the 12‑month training.
The two learning tracks
1. Multi‑Learnership (12 months)
- Fields – Plumbing, Carpentry, Bricklaying, Painting, Building Community Homes
- Theory – 4 months in Polokwane, covering the basics of each trade

2. Electrical Engineering Learnership (12 months)
