Impala Platinum 2026 Fitting & Boilermaking Learnership Deadline 11 Mar
Want a stable, well-paid job that turns classroom lessons into real‑world skill? The Impala Platinum Engineering Learnership Programme 2026 is opening doors for young South Africans in mining and engineering. It offers 42 months of hands‑on training in Fitting (including Machining) or Boilermaking at the Implats refinery in Springs, Gauteng. If you finish this programme, you’ll earn a recognised Trade Test Certificate from the Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) and be ready to join one of the country’s most secure industries.
What the programme is all about
Impala Platinum Refineries, a leading player in the mining sector, has launched a learnership that blends classroom theory with practical work. Over more than three years, you will move through four phases: foundational safety and workshop basics, on‑the‑job training in plant sections, advanced practical skills like precision measurement, and finally preparation for the MQA trade test. The outcome? A certified artisan ready to work in one of South Africa’s most demanding industrial environments.
Who should apply?
If you have:
- An N2 Certificate or NCV Level 4 in Mechanical Engineering (for Fitting) or Boilermaking (for the other stream)
- Strong background in Mathematics and Engineering Science
- For Fitting: knowledge of Fitter Trade Theory and Engineering Drawing
- For Boilermaking: knowledge of Structural Steel Drawing and Plater Trade Theory
- Basic understanding of the trade principles and a medical fitness test suitable for mining plants
…you’re eligible. Many applicants struggle with meeting the exact subject list, so double‑check that you have the right qualifications before you apply.
What you’ll gain
By the end of the learnership you will:
- Master mechanical maintenance, machine assembly, and fault‑finding
- Learn to use precision measuring tools and interpret engineering drawings
- Understand preventative maintenance and safety procedures in a refinery setting
- Build confidence working under real production deadlines
For Boilermaking participants, you’ll add skills in structural steel fabrication, industrial welding, metal cutting, and installation of large plant structures.
