EASTC Electrical ARPL 2026 – 20 Slots, R2 000 Stipend, Apply 31 Mar

South Africa’s infrastructure projects and growing industries need skilled electricians, yet many capable workers lack formal certificates. The Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning (ARPL) Electrical Programme is a new chance to turn your on‑the‑job experience into a nationally recognised qualification, plus a monthly stipend that can keep you going while you study.

What the ARPL Electrical Programme Offers

EASTC Technocentric Varsity, in partnership with the Xylem SA Trust, will select 20 unemployed individuals between 18 and 40 years old who already work in electrical roles. If you have at least 5 years of hands‑on electrical work or a Grade 12 N2 Electrical qualification and three years of related experience, you qualify. Participants will receive:

  • Structured assessment of existing skills
  • Targeted training to fill knowledge gaps
  • Preparation for national trade testing
  • Official certification as a qualified electrician or electrical artisan
  • R2 000 per month stipend during the programme

Who Should Apply?

If you’re currently working in any electrical capacity but do not hold a formal trade qualification, you’re eligible. Examples include:

  • Electrical assistants
  • Informal electricians

  • Technical workshop assistants
  • Construction workers with electrical experience

To apply you must:

  • Be unemployed
  • Be aged 18–40
  • Have an updated CV
  • Meet at least one of the following: five years of electrical experience, or an N2 Electrical qualification with three years of experience and a stamped service letter.

What You Gain

Beyond the R2 000 stipend, the programme equips you with:

  • A recognised trade certificate that opens higher‑paying jobs in construction, mining, telecoms, renewable energy, and industrial plants.
  • Skills to progress to roles such as Electrical Technician, Industrial Maintenance Specialist, Renewable Energy Technician, or even starting your own electrical contracting business.
  • Confidence that your practical experience is valued and formally acknowledged.
