Educational pathways
- Option 1 – Grade 12 / Standard 10: Pass with at least an E (40 %) in all subjects. Mathematical Literacy is not accepted.
- Option 2 – NCV Level 4: Pass with at least an E (40 %) in all subjects.
- Option 3 – Technical High School: Pass Grade 12 or Standard 10 with English, Mathematics, Science and Technical Drawing, each at least an E (40 %).
Trade‑specific requirements
- Minimum N2 qualification and completion of the four trade theory subjects.
- For the Plater Boilermaker trade, the subject “Structural Steel Drawings” must be one of the four.

- Diesel Mechanic – engine maintenance, fault diagnosis, inspections, repairs and performance testing.

- Fitter and Turner – operating machine tools, manufacturing components, fitting, reading drawings and precision engineering.
- Plater Boilermaker – structural fabrication, welding, reading technical drawings, metal component manufacturing and maintenance of mining structures.
