Eastern Cape Dept Education Principal Vacancies 2026 – Deadline 31 July
There is a limited window to apply for school principal positions in the Eastern Cape – the deadline is 31 July 2026, and the posts are expected to fill quickly. Eastern Cape Department of Education has just released the Open Post Bulletin (Volume 4 2026) for all districts.
What the opportunity is
The bulletin lists vacant School Principal posts across every education district in the Eastern Cape. Successful candidates will lead a public school, overseeing teaching and learning, school management, and development planning.
Who can apply
You are eligible if you hold a recognised teaching qualification, are registered (or have applied for registration) with the South African Council for Educators (SACE), and have the experience required for senior school leadership. The role is open to all qualified educators who meet the criteria outlined below.
What you gain
- Full responsibility for academic and operational leadership of a school.
- Opportunity to shape teaching and learning outcomes for learners.
- Professional growth through managing a team of teachers and staff.
- Enhanced CV with senior‑level management experience.
How to apply – step‑by‑step
- Obtain the Educator Employment Profile (EDP 01) form. You can download it from the Eastern Cape Department of Education website or collect a copy from any district office.
- Complete the form in full. Do not photocopy a completed form; fill in a fresh original.
- Prepare the required supporting documents (see list below).
- Make a separate application form for each principal post you wish to be considered for. Clearly write the post number, school name, and district on each form.
- Submit the completed form and supporting documents to the relevant district office only before the closing date.
- Wait for an official appointment letter. You may be contacted for an interview and will need to cover any travel costs yourself.
Required supporting documents
- Completed EDP 01 form and your current CV.
- Certified copy of your South African ID document.
- Certified copies of all academic qualifications, including any teacher‑training certificates.
- Certified copy of your SACE membership certificate or proof of a pending registration application.
Tips to improve your chances
- Read the new Public School Principals’ Handbook – it explains the expectations for academic leadership, school management, and development planning.
- Double‑check that every document is certified and that no pages are missing; incomplete applications will be discarded.
- Tailor your CV to highlight leadership experience, curriculum development, and school improvement projects.
- Submit a separate, fully completed form for each vacancy you are interested in.
- Follow up politely with the district office if you have not received confirmation of receipt within a week.
Important reminders
- The final date for submission is 31 July 2026. Late applications will not be accepted.
- Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews and will be responsible for their own travel expenses.
- You are considered unsuccessful if you have not heard from the Department within three months of the closing date.
- Do not assume a post is filled if you see no vacancy listed later – the Department reserves the right to leave a post vacant in case of irregularities.
- Do not sign or submit any application that contains false information; misrepresentation may lead to disqualification.
