AfriGri Farmer Development has opened its 2026/2027 Learnership Programme, and the deadline is only a few days away. If you have finished Matric, are unemployed and ready to learn, this could be the chance you have been waiting for.
What the opportunity is
AFGRI Farmer Development (AFD) is offering a 12‑month learnership that combines on‑the‑job and classroom training in crop and animal farming. The training will take place at Vastfontein Training Farm in Pretoria North, Gauteng. Fourteen learners will be selected to gain hands‑on experience in a commercial farm environment.
Who can apply
- South African citizen
- Completed Grade 12 or an equivalent qualification
- Currently unemployed
- Willing to work and study for 12 months at Vastfontein Farm
- Preference will be given to women and persons with disabilities
There is no formal requirement for previous farming experience or a specific age limit. Applicants from any province may apply, but they must be able to relocate or commute to the farm for the duration of the programme.
What you will gain
- Practical skills in crop production – soil preparation, planting, irrigation, pest control and harvesting.
- Animal‑production knowledge – feeding, housing, welfare, disease prevention and record‑keeping.
- Workplace competencies such as teamwork, communication, time‑management and safety awareness.
- Exposure to both on‑the‑job tasks and off‑the‑job theory sessions.
- A certificate or qualification (to be confirmed by AFGRI) that can strengthen future job applications in agriculture.
While the learnership does not guarantee permanent employment, the experience can make you a stronger candidate for future farm or agribusiness roles.
