Join SG Coal’s 2025 Apprenticeship: Diesel Mechanic & Automotive Electrician Training for Future Pros

SG Coal invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for their Diesel Mechanic and Automotive Electrician apprenticeship vacancies. The closing date for applications is 03 November 2025.
What SG Coal’s Apprenticeship Offers
SG Coal is one of South Africa’s biggest coal‑transport companies. They need people who can keep heavy trucks, generators and plant equipment running smoothly. To fill that need, they’re launching a three‑year apprenticeship that ends with a nationally recognized Red Seal Certificate.
In the first year you’ll learn the basics of diesel engines and vehicle electrical systems. In the second and third years you’ll work side‑by‑side with experienced mechanics and electricians, getting hands‑on practice while also taking theory lessons. By the time you finish, you’ll be ready to work for SG Coal or any freight company that relies on diesel vehicles.
Who Can Apply?
If you meet these simple criteria, SG Coal will consider your application:
Requirement | What it means |
---|---|
Age | 18 – 35 years old |
Education | Finished Grade 9 with at least 50 % in Math and Science, or an NQF Level 1 record with a 50 % pass in those subjects |
Citizenship | Must be a South African citizen |
Commitment | Will finish the full three‑year apprenticeship |
No prior experience is needed – SG Coal will train you from scratch.
