What is a Supply Chain Practitioner Learnership?

A learnership is a paid training program that blends classroom lessons with real‑world work experience.
For the Supply Chain Practitioner role, you’ll learn how to:

  • Buy goods and services that help a company run smoothly.
  • Negotiate prices, write contracts and keep track of orders.
  • Check that suppliers deliver on time and meet quality standards.

By the end of the 18‑month program you’ll be ready to start a career as a Procurement Officer, a job that supports the entire business.

Who Can Apply?

UnemployedYou must not have a job right now.
No current learnershipYou can’t already be in another training program.
No post‑matric degreeIf you already have a university certificate, you can’t apply.
Matric (Grade 12) with Maths Literacy & EnglishYou need at least a Level 4 in both subjects.
ID and proof of residenceStandard documents every South African needs.
Age 18–35In line with national standard (NSDSIII).
South African citizenYou must have an SA ID.
No concealment of qualificationsFailing to disclose full history will get you disqualified.

Special note for people with disabilities

  • Hard‑of‑hearing applicants must bring their own interpreters and pay the cost; the learnership expects them to hear and speak during training.
  • Proof of disability (a doctor’s certificate or a signed ITRDD13 form) is required to support your application.

Documents You Must Submit

  1. Certified copy of your ID.
  2. Proof of where you live.
  3. Certified copy of your matric certificate.
  4. SAQA / NLRD verification report (download this from the SAQA website).
  5. Your CV (simple, no fancy design).

All these documents have to be clear and readable.

What You’ll Do During the 18 Months

  • Learn on the job: Participate in training sessions and teaching seminars.
  • Get hands‑on experience: Work alongside senior staff, help plan deliveries and handle contracts.
  • Do assignments: Complete projects, write reports and keep a learning logbook to track your progress.
  • Review performance: Help your supervisor monitor how supply orders are handled and spot improvements.

By the end, you will have the skills to work in any large company that needs a procurement specialist.
