AFRIMAT Invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for their Health & Safety Learnership Programme. The closing date for applications is the 14th October 2025.
What AFRIMAT is Looking For
If you’re studying a health and safety course, you already have the right background. But it’s not just about the books – AFRIMAT wants someone ready to learn on the job, who can keep up in a busy setting, and who knows how to use basic office tools.
- Your current studies must be related to health and safety.
- You should be eager to learn and open to training.
- You need some experience in office admin or at least basic Microsoft Office skills.
- The job will move fast, so you should be able to take initiative and stay organised.

This learnership is all about real‑world safety duties. Here’s what you’ll get to do:
- Safety Inductions & Toolbox Talks – help new workers understand safety rules.
- Check the Rules – make sure the mine follows the Mine Health and Safety Act and other laws.
- Learn to Spot Hazards – get trained to recognise potential dangers in the workplace.
- Write Safety Documents – fish out important paperwork, upload it to the SHEQ system, and keep it up to date.
- Support the Safety Officer – inspect the site for hazards and help out with investigations when accidents happen.
- Join the Safety Team – attend committee meetings and take part in planning and review sessions.
- Do Audits – learn to perform internal and external safety checks.
- Help Workers – give advice on health and safety questions and report any near‑misses or incidents.
You’ll get hands‑on experience while learning how a professional safety team works.
