What Is This Job All About?

Minimum Qualifications

To be eligible you must:

  1. Hold a Grade 12 (matric) certificate.
  2. Have a valid Code 10 driver’s licence.
  3. Carry a current Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
  4. Be ready to pass a driver competency test.

Bonus Points (Optional)

  • At least three years of bus or learner transport experience is helpful but not required.

You do not need previous government work experience. If you meet the minimum criteria, you can apply.


What Will You Do?

A driver in this role does more than just drive:

Learner Transport

  • Safely pick up and drop off students.
  • Help students get on and off the vehicle.
  • Keep an eye on students while they’re traveling.

Safety & Rules

  • Inspect the vehicle every day.
  • Follow traffic laws and the Department’s safety rules.
  • Take part in safety drills and write reports.

Messenger and Support

  • Deliver and pick up school documents.
  • Carry supplies for the school.
  • Take students to clinics or hospitals if needed.
  • Keep logs of trips, fuel usage and mileage.
