Department of Correctional Services Invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for their Independent Correctional Centre Visitor vacancies.
The closing date for applications is the 17th October 2025.

What You’ll Do as an Independent Correctional Centre Visitor

As an Independent Correctional Centre Visitor, you’ll visit prisons, talk with inmates and staff, and keep an eye on the safety and well‑being of everyone inside. Your main tasks will include:

  • Visiting each centre every day to talk with inmates and correctional officers about complaints or problems.
  • Checking the facilities and conditions, and reporting what you find.
  • Keeping track of serious incidents such as deaths, segregation, the use of restraints or any use of force.
  • Helping the Joint Investigation Citizens’ Service (JICS) during inspections and investigations.
  • Handling paperwork: collecting inmate complaints, writing detailed reports and doing other office chores.

You’ll work for 36 months under a fixed‑term contract.

Salary and Benefits

  • Base pay: R85 620 per year (level 05).
  • Extras: 37 % in lieu of benefits.

This is a regular full‑time position, so you’ll get paid every month and have a set schedule.
