About SARS

The South African Revenue Service is the main agency that collects taxes. SARS is modernising its technology and wants to build a strong team of tech experts from within the country. Previous graduate groups were all hired permanently, showing that the programme is a reliable path to a stable job.


The Graduate Programme

The Deviare–SARS Graduate Programme is a full‑time, 18‑month experience that blends learning and real work. Microsoft helps design the curriculum, so you’ll get:

  • Official Microsoft certifications
  • Hands‑on projects that solve real problems
  • Mentoring from experienced professionals
  • Workshops on career skills
  • Support to help you land a job after finishing
  • Work experience that benefits the whole country

Once you’re accepted, you’ll be placed in one of six high‑demand tracks based on how you perform in the assessment.


Learning Tracks

  1. Data Science – Turn data into useful insights and build predictive models.
  2. Full‑Stack Development – Build websites and apps from the front‑end to the back‑end.
  3. AI Engineering – Design smart systems that learn and make decisions.
  4. Microsoft Cloud Solutions Architecture – Build and manage cloud services using Microsoft Azure.
  5. Microsoft Power Platform – Create low‑code or no‑code business apps and automation.
  6. Cyber Security – Protect systems from cyber threats by spotting and fixing weaknesses.

Programme Requirements

  • Age: 22‑28 years old
  • Employment status: Unemployed and not in another learning program or internship
  • Location: Must live in Gauteng or be ready to relocate at your own cost
  • Education: NQF Level 6 or 7 in one of the following: BSc Mathematics, BCom Finance / Information Systems, Computer Science, ICT or a related field

How the Application Works (5 Simple Steps)

  1. Sign Up – Create an online profile, answer the aptitude and behavioural tests, and upload your documents.
  2. Shortlisting – Deviare checks applications to see who meets the rules and did well on the tests.
  3. Interview – Selected candidates talk with recruiters to see if they’re a good fit.
  4. Offer – Successful candidates get a conditional offer and feedback.
  5. Onboarding – After accepting, a background check is done and you officially join the programme.

What Happens After You Apply

All applicants must pass a series of checks:

  • Aptitude test results
  • Behavioural test results
  • Proof of qualifications
  • ID verification
  • Credit and ITC checks
  • Criminal record check

Only when all of these are clear does the programme accept you.
