Eastern Cape Department of Agriculture invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for their Bursary Programme vacancies. The closing date for applications is 10 November 2025.
What is the Bursary Programme?
The Bursary Programme is a free‑of‑charge plan that helps young people in the Eastern Cape start a university degree. It’s designed for people who are:
- Still in school ready to finish Grade 12 or an NCV course, or
- Just finished school but don’t have a job yet.
When you finish your degree, you’ll work for the Department of Agriculture for the same amount of time you were funded.
Fields of Study Covered
In 2026 you can study one of these two subjects:
- Science in Agricultural Engineering or Bio‑Resource Engineering – learn how to use machines and technology to grow food better.
- Health Science in Veterinary Technology – learn how to keep farm animals healthy and safe.
Who Can Apply?
To be eligible you must meet all these checks:
- Be a South African citizen – especially if you come from the Eastern Cape or belong to a historically disadvantaged group.
- Have or be working towards a Grade 12/Matric/NCV certificate. You need the right mix of subjects:
- For Engineering: Math and Physical Science.
- For Veterinary: Life Science, Math, and Physical Science.
- Show proof that a university has accepted you – an admission letter or a registration number.
- Provide a recent proof of residence from your local council (no older than 3 months).
- Show your household income is below the limit:
- Below R350 000 a year for general applicants.
- Below R600 000 a year if you have a disability.
- Send a copy of an affidavit or other document that confirms how much money your family earns, plus your parent or guardian ID copies.
- Tell the Department if you already get help from another funding source.
What the Bursary Covers
Your money will pay for everything you need at university, including:
- Registration fees
- Tuition fees
- Room and board (your house or dorm)
- Food
- Textbooks that the school hands out
Note that any previous student loans or debts you have won’t be paid by the programme.

- Fill out the form completely. Hand‑written or scribbled submissions will not be accepted.
- Send the finished form by e‑mail to bursary@ecagriculture.gov.za.
