Gauteng Dept of Education Exam Assistant & QA 2026 – Apply by 08 Sep

Now is your chance to earn while you study – the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) is hiring Examination Assistants and Quality Assurers for the 2026 exam period.

What the opportunity is

The GDE’s Examinations Management directorate is offering a total of 1,537 positions across Gauteng. This includes 277 Examination Assistant roles and 1,260 Quality Assurer roles. All appointments will be paid according to the applicable Personnel Administrative Measures (PAM) rates.

Who can apply – eligibility criteria

You must have a recognised qualification such as the Senior Certificate, National Senior Certificate (or Vocational), or an equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification. In addition, the advert limits applicants to:

  • Registered students at a university, college or TVET institution;
  • Unemployed individuals who hold one or more tertiary qualifications;
  • Unemployed graduates.

Further requirements:

  • Mathematics or Accounting must have been studied (advanced numerical skills are essential).
  • Second‑year tertiary students or higher are given preference.
  • Any previous experience as an Examination Assistant – whether in an office, marking centre or similar – should be mentioned.

People who are writing the NSC, Senior Certificate or AET exams in 2026, have taken the VSP, or are currently employed elsewhere are not eligible.

What you gain – skills and experience

Both roles give you hands‑on experience with the administration of national examinations. You will develop:

  • Attention to detail and accuracy when handling official scripts;
  • Numerical and analytical skills by checking marks and totals;
  • Time‑management and the ability to work under tight deadlines;
  • Professional workplace experience that looks strong on a CV.
