ETDP SETA Mpumalanga invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for the Coded Welding Occupational Skills Programme. The closing date for applications is 07 NOVEMBER 2025.


What Is the Programme?

The Coded Welding Occupational Skills Programme is a six‑month course that gives you hands‑on welding and engineering skills. You’ll learn to:

  • Make welds that meet industry safety and quality standards
  • Read and follow welding codes and diagrams
  • Perform visual, non‑destructive and destructive weld tests

By the end you’ll earn a certification that shows you can work as a Coded Welder in real projects.


Who Can Join?

To qualify, you need at least one of the following:

  • NCV Level 3 / N3 in Mechanical Engineering or Welding or
  • Grade 11 results that include Maths and Physical Science

If you have done a welding course before or have some welding experience, you’ll have an edge.

You should also be physically fit, have good hand‑eye coordination, and be able to follow safety rules.

Preferred applicants:

  • NCV Level 4 / N4 in Mechanical Engineering, Welding/Engineering or Related Design
  • Grade 12 with Maths and Physical Science passes

Course Length and Money

  • Duration – 6 months of classroom and practical training
  • Stipend – R3,000 per month so you can focus on learning without worrying about money

How to Apply

Bring the following documents to the Skills Academy and Artisan Development Centre (No. 2 Tambourine Avenue, Standfield Hill, Standerton):

  1. Certified copy of your ID
  2. Certified copy of your Grade 11 or 12 results (or NCV/N4 certificates)
  3. All certificates must be issued within the last 6 months

Applications must be handed in physically at the centre.
