What the Internship Looks Like
If you just finished a degree in Human Resources, Industrial Psychology, or a similar field, this internship lets you step into the real world of HR inside one of South Africa’s leading science and technology research organisations. You’ll learn how HR works in a fast‑moving, research‑heavy environment while building skills that will help you stand out when you start your career.

Your Day‑to‑Day Tasks
1. Hiring and Staffing
- Run the full hiring process for entry‑level roles.
- Collect and check job applications to make sure all information is complete.
- Help screen candidates, run tests, and assess their fit before interviews.
- Verify that applicants can legally work in South Africa.
- Support HRBPs in setting up interview panels and scheduling.
- Record interview notes and share detailed feedback.
- Prepare and send out contracts and onboarding forms.
- Coordinate occupational health checks before new hires start.
2. Training & Skill Development
- Build the training calendar for the company.
- Handle payments and registrations for training sessions.
- Track who attends and follow up on training requirements.
- Distribute training materials and prepare attendance sheets.
- Maintain accurate records of training data.
- Set up learning venues and help the Skills Development Officer compile reports for SETA, BEE, EE, and WSP/ATR.
3. Managing Bursaries
- Assist with running the bursary program.
- Ensure universities receive bursary payments on time.
4. HR Support for Employees
- Provide general HR help and advice whenever staff ask questions.
- Always act in line with Mintek’s values and vision.
What You Need
- A university honours (NQF Level 8) in Human Resources, Industrial Psychology, or a closely related subject.
- A master’s degree in the same field is a plus.
- Strong focus on improving HR processes.
- Good at getting people on board with HR projects.
- Excellent organisational, communication, and attention‑to‑detail skills.
Salary
- R186,180.00 per year
