Who Is SASSETA?
SASSETA is a South African government agency created under the Skills Development Act. It runs training and skills programs for jobs like policing, law, corrections, and defence.
The agency has a good reputation for giving bursaries, learnerships, internships, and grants. Every decision is made fairly, following Bursary Policy Version 6.
Which Courses Get the Most Attention?
SASSETA lists three top‑priority fields:
- LLB (Bachelor of Laws) – for future lawyers and legal workers.
- Veterinary Science – for people who want to care for animals.
- STEM – covers science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
If you are studying any other course that the Department of Higher Education and Training says is in high demand, you can still apply – but only if it is on the official SASSETA approved list.
Do You Qualify?
You must satisfy every of the following:
- Be a South African citizen.
- Be aged 18‑35.
- Not have a job at the time you apply.
- Be accepted or registered for the 2026 academic year at a public tertiary institution.
- Be enrolled in a course that is on the SASSETA approved list.
- Be able to provide all required paperwork.
Extra points go to applicants from households earning up to R600 000 a year, especially if they come from disadvantaged backgrounds.
