UNISA 2026 Internship – 10 Spots, R127,576/yr Stipend, Apply by 3 Apr

There are only a handful of internship spots left for UNISA graduates – and they could be the key to your first job. The UNISA Internship Programme 2026 offers ten paid, one‑year positions starting 1 May 2026, each with a stipend of R127 576 a year. If you’re a recent graduate looking to break into a technical field, this is a chance you can’t afford to miss.

What the programme is all about

This is a 12‑month fixed internship in the Facilities Management: Maintenance Directorate at the UNISA Muckleneuk Campus in Pretoria. The roles are designed for fresh graduates with no prior work experience and will give you hands‑on exposure to civil engineering, building studies and infrastructure maintenance.

Who should apply?

To qualify, you must:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Be unemployed at the time of application
  • Be 35 years old or younger
  • Have finished a UNISA qualification at NQF Level 6 or higher
  • Have no previous work experience or prior UNISA internship
  • Submit your application with the correct reference number (REF/FMM/03)
  • Apply through the UNISA internal portal only – no other sites or emails are accepted

People living with disabilities are encouraged to apply. The internship is only available to UNISA graduates, so students from other universities cannot use this route.

What you’ll gain

You’ll earn a monthly stipend of about R10 631 (before tax and deductions) and receive real‑world training in infrastructure management. The experience is a solid stepping stone to roles such as Facilities Officer, Maintenance Coordinator or Technical Administrator. After the internship you’ll be ready for entry‑level jobs in municipal or private sector projects, and with time you can move into senior facilities or engineering positions.

How to apply – step‑by‑step

  1. Prepare your documents. You’ll need a CV, a one‑page motivational letter, a certified copy of your ID, your matric certificate, an academic record and proof that your UNISA qualification is complete. All documents must be PDF, not password‑protected, and certified within the last six months.
  2. Log into the UNISA portal. Use your student number and the internship reference number (REF/FMM/03).
  3. Fill out the application. Attach each document, write your motivational letter, and double‑check that you’ve listed your technical modules and computer skills.
  4. Submit before midnight on 3 April 2026. Late applications will not be accepted.
  5. Wait for a response. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. If you do not hear back within 30 days of the deadline, your application was not successful.

Tips to boost your chances

Many applicants feel nervous about their first job search. From experience, most successful candidates:

  • Write a clear, personal motivational letter explaining why you chose your field and how the internship fits your career goals.
  • Use a professional CV layout that highlights technical modules, computer literacy and teamwork experience from assignments.
  • Show you can work under supervision and meet deadlines – these are the basic skills employers look for in entry‑level roles.
  • Proofread your documents carefully; a typo can cost you a spot.
  • Confirm your documents are certified and uploaded as PDFs before the deadline.

Remember, this internship does not promise permanent employment, but the skills and exposure you gain will make your résumé shine to future employers.

What comes next

If you fit the criteria and can relocate to Pretoria, act quickly. The 10 spots fill fast and the closing date is 3 April 2026. Gather your documents, log into the UNISA portal, and submit your application before midnight. Good luck, and step into the world of infrastructure today!
