Are you ready to apply?
You must meet these minimum requirements:
Requirement | Details |

Education | At least Grade 10 or an ABET Level 4 certificate and above. Bring an original, certified school report that is no older than six months. |
Experience | A minimum of 12 months working as a porter in a health setting is a big plus. |
Skills & Knowledge | • Teamwork and the ability to stay calm under pressure. • Knowledge of the Batho Pele principles and patients’ rights. • Good communication, especially on the phone. • Willingness to work different shifts. |
What will you do every day?
- Help patients who need wheelchairs or trolleys.
- Transfer patients from ambulances or private vehicles into the hospital’s wards or casualty.
- Clean and maintain stretchers, wheelchairs and other patient handling gear.
- Move deceased patients from wards to the mortuary.
- Write down patient details in the ambulance book.
- Make sure mortuary slips are ready and accurate.
- Report any broken equipment to the Principal Porter.

- If you don’t hear back within three months, your application was not successful.
Important: If you have foreign qualifications, you must also provide a SAQA evaluation certificate.
