- Making both structural and finished wooden parts

Carpenters can find work in building, furniture shops, renovation projects, or start their own workshops.
Plumber Apprenticeship
Plumbing is a top‑demand trade in South Africa. You’ll learn about:
- Setting up water supply and drainage systems
- Maintaining pipes and fixtures
- Checking that all work follows building rules
- Troubleshooting common problems
Plumbers can work in construction, city maintenance, or run a private plumbing company.
Who Can Apply?
You need at least one of the following qualifications:
- Technical Grade 11 with the right subjects
- N2 diploma with relevant subjects
- NCV Level 4 with all required subjects
These levels make sure you have the basics before you dive into the apprenticeship.
What to Bring With Your Application
- A clear CV that says which trade you want (Bricklayer, Carpenter, or Plumber)
- A copy of your South African ID (not certified)
- Certified copies of your relevant qualifications
- If you’re under 18, a copy of a parent or guardian’s ID
Missing any of these can stop your application from being looked at.
How to Submit
- Go to the Skills Academy & Artisan Development Centre in Standerton.
- Hand in your paper application.
- Make sure your CV shows the trade you’re applying for.
Applications are accepted only in person – no email or fax.
If you don’t hear back within 60 days after the deadline, your application is likely not successful.
What Happens After You Apply?
- Once the deadline passes, the college will shortlist candidates who meet the rules and have open spots.
- Those shortlisted may be called for a quick interview or more tests.
- Winners will start a structured apprenticeship program that lasts a few months to a year.
Because this is a Limited program, competition is tight, so applying early and correctly is key.
Why This Matters
Doing a trade apprenticeship gives you a job‑ready skill that is in demand across South Africa. You’ll learn real techniques, earn a recognized qualification, and open doors to work in big construction firms, local governments, or even start your own business.
You can also move up to become a supervisor, foreman, or later on, teach others.
