You should:
- Love farming and want to see how it works on a real farm
- Be ready to learn, adapt, and work hard
- Speak well and work nicely with others
What will you do?
This is a true hands‑on job, not a “watch‑and‑listen” internship. Typical tasks include:
- Farm work – help out on external farms and learn real‑world skills
- Livestock care – feed animals, check their health, support breeding, and help with basic vaccinations
- Crop work – plant, prune, harvest, and keep crops healthy in real conditions
- Soil science – sample soil, test it, and help improve soil fertility
- Pest & disease control – keep crops and animals safe from problems
- Water management – install and monitor irrigation systems for efficient water use
- Farm equipment – help maintain machinery and learn to use it safely
- Record keeping – gather data on yields, animal performance, and soil health
- Sustainable farming – practice conservation methods and learn about agroforestry
- Community work – join outreach projects with local people
At the end of the year you’ll have real experience that makes you ready for a job or further study in agriculture.
Where will you be placed?
You’ll be assigned to farms in the Vhembe District. Be prepared to:
- Work outdoors in the heat
- Rise early and get your hands dirty
- Travel to different farms
If you’re up for a challenge, you’ll grow a lot. If you’re just looking for a comfortable desk job, this might be tough – but the growth is worth it.
Stipend
You’ll receive R4 200 a month. This helps cover transport, food, and data so you can focus on learning.
