DCS 2026 Graduate Internship – R8,174.75 stipend apply by 09 July

South African graduates are struggling to find their first job because most employers want experience – the very thing fresh graduates lack. The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) Graduate Internship Programme offers a 24‑month paid placement that can give you that missing experience right now.

What the opportunity is

The DCS Public Service Graduate Internship Programme provides unemployed graduates with practical, on‑the‑job training in the public sector. Interns work for two years, receive a monthly stipend of R8 174,75, and gain exposure to a range of correctional services functions.

Who can apply

You must hold a recognised National Diploma or Bachelor’s degree that matches the field of the reference number you choose. Eligible fields include, but are not not limited to:

  • Architecture, Civil, Structural, Landscape or Interior Design
  • Law (LLB)
  • Finance, Accounting, Management
  • Psychology, Social Work
  • Information Technology, Supply Chain Management
  • Theology, Correctional Services Management, Penology, Criminology
  • Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management
  • Agriculture, Horticulture, Plant & Animal Production, Food Technology
  • Various trades – plumbing, electrical, bricklaying, welding, motor mechanic, carpentry, fitting, upholstery, pattern making, clothing design

How to apply – step by step

  1. Download the official Z83 application form from the DCS website.
  2. Complete the form in full and write the correct reference number for the role you want.
  3. Attach a detailed, up‑to‑date Curriculum Vitae (CV).
  4. Submit a separate application for each reference number you wish to be considered for.
  5. Send your application by the closing date 09 July 2026 at 15:45 via the method (email, hand‑delivery or post) that corresponds to the reference number.
  6. If you are short‑listed, you will be asked to provide certified copies of your qualifications and supporting documents.
