Who can apply?
Citizenship & status: You must be a South African citizen with a valid ID and currently unemployed.
Age: You must be 26 years old or younger when you apply.
Academic criteria
- Matric learners (2026 Grade 12): Submit your Grade 11 results and the June 2026 Grade 12 results. Preference goes to high‑scoring students.
- Current university students: You need at least a 65 % average in your most recent results and must maintain a minimum GPA of 60 % throughout the bursary period.
Institution requirement: You must be enrolled or intend to enroll full‑time at a South African public university or university of technology.
Financial need: Preference is given to households earning R350 000 a year or less. Applicants from households earning between R350 000 and R600 000 may still be considered after an affordability assessment.
Additional weighting is given to:

- Learners from Quintile 1‑3 schools
- Rural and historically disadvantaged communities
- Strong academic performance

What does the bursary cover?
The programme offers a comprehensive package to remove financial barriers.
- Tuition: Full registration, tuition and, where applicable, examination fees.
- Accommodation: University residence or accredited off‑campus housing.
- Learning support: One‑off laptop allowance and academic resources.
- Living expenses: Meal and transport allowances.
Qualifications that are NOT funded
- Second or additional qualifications.
- Most postgraduate programmes.
Honours funding may be considered only for Law, Accounting (CA), Actuarial Science, Mathematics and Statistics.
