What is the ARPL Programme for Chefs?
The Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning (ARPL) is a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) scheme. It assesses the knowledge and skills you have already gained on the job. If you meet the standards, you receive the Occupational Certificate: Chef (SAQA ID 101697), which is at NQF Level 5. Tuition and study materials are fully funded.
Who can apply?
To be eligible you must:
- Be at least 19 years old and a South African citizen
- Have completed Grade 10 (Standard 8) or equivalent
- Have a minimum of three years’ experience as a chef in a brigade kitchen
- Be able to read and write English
- Choose either the KwaZulu‑Natal or Western Cape intake
- Be able to attend training at the designated trade centre in your province
