Competition Commission 2026 Internship – Six Study Fields

Act now – the competition authority’s internship closes soon, and it could be the first step toward a career in public regulation. SETA SA has posted the latest 30 October 2026 recruitment notice, and the vacancy is open to a range of study fields.

What the internship offers

This is a single internship programme that accepts applicants from six different study‑field groupings. The application portal is the same for all fields, so you only need to submit one online form.

Who can apply

You must be a South African student who is near the end of a recognised qualification in one of the following areas:

  • Human Capital (Human Resources)
  • Law
  • Economics
  • Finance
  • Supply Chain Management
  • Communications – multimedia skills are preferred

Final‑year status or a compulsory work‑integrated learning component is usually required. Check that your programme aligns with the field you choose.

What you will gain

The placement gives you real‑world exposure to a regulator that deals with competition policy. You can expect to develop:

  • Understanding of competition law, market analysis and economic assessment
  • Practical HR, finance, procurement or communication skills, depending on your field
  • Professional networking within a government environment
  • Experience that strengthens your résumé for future jobs or bursaries

How to apply – step by step

  1. Visit the official competition authority internship page (the same link for all six fields).
  2. Create an account and fill in your personal details.
  3. Select the study‑field that matches your qualification.
  4. Upload your latest CV, academic transcript and any required certificates.
  5. Answer the short motivation questions honestly.
  6. Submit the form before the deadline indicated on the notice.

  • Tailor your motivation answer to show how the internship links to your coursework and career goal.
  • Proofread all documents – spelling errors can hurt your impression.
  • Collect references from lecturers who can speak to your suitability.
  • Submit early to avoid last‑minute technical issues.

Field‑specific notes

Human Capital

If your diploma or degree is in HR or human capital, you can explore tasks such as recruitment support or staff development. The authority does not guarantee any specific HR duties.

Law

Law students nearing graduation can gain exposure to competition law, including issues like restrictive practices, market dominance and mergers. Use the Careers and Qualifications Explorer to see the broader legal career path.

Economics

Economics students will see how market structure, pricing and firm conduct are analysed in a regulatory setting. Specific analytical tasks are not assigned to each intern.

Finance

Finance learners may work on budgeting, financial reporting or internal controls within the authority’s corporate services. No explicit finance job description is promised.

Supply Chain Management

If your programme requires procurement or logistics work‑integrated learning, this field may be relevant. The advert does not detail a specific procurement role.

Communications – multimedia preferred

Applicants with multimedia abilities are favoured. Possible work includes digital content creation, information design, communication strategy and public‑facing media, but the exact duties are set by the authority.

Important: Information Technology was listed in an older intake, but it is not included in the new 30 October 2026 notice. Do not assume the fields are the same as previous rounds.
