Cape Wools SA Invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for their Wool Industry Bursary Vacancies. The closing date for applications is the 31 October 2025.
What is the Wool Industry Bursary Trust?
Cape Wools SA runs a special funding program called the Wool Industry Bursary Trust. Its goal is to help young South Africans study subjects that matter to the wool and farming world. With this bursary, you can explore:
- Growing and caring for sheep
- Turning wool into yarn and fabric
- Designing stylish clothes made from wool
- Exporting wool products around the globe
A generous seed donation from the Pecci Family and support from the Wool Trust made this bursary possible.
Who Can Apply?
If you’re:
- A South African citizen
- Accepted or ready to be accepted by a university or college
- Able to show your grades and progress report
- In possession of a valid ID and proof of where you live

Cape Wools SA gives extra preference to:
- Students at Agricultural Colleges (they get 50 % of the funding)
- Those studying fashion or textile design with a focus on wool
- Young people who have faced disadvantages (they receive 60 % of the funds)
- Students already in their 3rd year or higher in an honors, master’s, or PhD program that revolves around wool or sheep
If you’re at Grootfontein Agricultural College, you could still qualify in your 1st or 2nd year – just promise to major in wool subjects in your 3rd year.
What Does the Bursary Cover?
The money can help with:
- Registration and tuition fees
- Books and study materials
- Room and board (accommodation)
If your school needs on‑farm training, you could get up to R20 000 extra to cover that.
What Do You Need to Do?
Bursary holders agree to:
- Keep a good grade average every semester
- Work on a real wool farm for up to four weeks during holidays, every year you receive funding
- Use at least half of your project (if you’re a fashion student) made from wool
- Get a job in the wool industry for 12 months for every year of the bursary you receive
- Tell anyone else you receive bursary money from
