What is the City of Johannesburg Transport Internship Programme 2026
City of Johannesburg Transport Internship Programme 2026 gives students and graduates up to 18 months of practical training in the Transport Department. It has two streams: Transport Systems Management and Quantity Surveying (Infrastructure). You will be based at 75 Helen Joseph Street in Johannesburg.
Who can apply
Transport Systems Management stream
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Completed at least first year of Civil Engineering, Town and Regional Planning or Transport Management
- Live in Johannesburg
Quantity Surveying stream
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Degree in Quantity Surveying (NQF Level 7)
- Live in Johannesburg
What you will gain
You will receive a stipend of R10 109.86 per month if your qualification is complete, or R3 500 if you are still studying.
In Transport Systems Management you will learn traffic impact assessments, nodal transport plans, policy implementation and stakeholder engagement. In Quantity Surveying you will gain skills in cost estimates, project monitoring, payments and risk management for roads, BRT stations and taxi ranks.
