DCS Community Board Member Vacancies 2026 – Apply by 20 July

The Department of Correctional Services is now accepting applications for Community Board Member positions for 2026, and the deadline is fast approaching. This is a chance to help shape South Africa’s parole system and support the rehabilitation of offenders.

What the opportunity is

The role is not a regular full‑time job. Appointed members sit on Community Corrections and Parole Boards and take part in decisions about parole, placement and reintegration of offenders. It is a statutory board appointment, not a permanent civil service post.

Who can apply – eligibility and minimum requirements

You need a recognised Degree or National Diploma in one of the following fields:

  • Criminal Justice
  • Community Development
  • Social Sciences
  • Policing
  • Human Rights
  • Other closely related areas

In addition, you must have at least 5 years of experience in community development or criminal justice, and demonstrate:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Sound decision‑making and problem‑solving ability
  • Integrity, honesty and confidentiality
  • Understanding of the parole board system

Retired professionals – such as former magistrates, police officers, social workers, correctional officials and senior public servants – are especially encouraged to apply.

What you gain – benefits and skills

  • Monthly remuneration based on Category D, Sub‑category D1 of the National Treasury’s remuneration framework for statutory boards.
  • Direct influence on public safety and offender rehabilitation.
  • Experience in high‑level decision‑making and community leadership.
  • Opportunities to work with victims, offenders and community stakeholders.

  1. Identify the vacancy that matches your location and reference number (see the list below).
  2. Prepare a CV that clearly shows how you meet each minimum requirement.
  3. Write a short cover letter stating the position you are applying for and the correct reference number.
