Tips to improve your chances
- Double‑check that your maths and physical‑science marks meet the 40 % threshold. If you only have Mathematical Literacy, contact the NARYSEC office for clarification.
- Make sure the proof of residence is clear and matches the address on your ID.
- Prepare a concise personal statement that explains why you are interested in solar energy and how the leadership programme will help you.
- Attend the 9‑week Youth Leadership Development Programme if you are shortlisted – it is a mandatory part of the training.
- Apply early; do not wait for the final day.
Other NARYSEC programmes in the Garden Route
In addition to the Solar Technician role, the same recruitment drive offers two technical pathways for applicants from targeted rural areas in Knysna Municipality:
- Millwright Training Programme – 12 months, entry into employment as a millwright (mechanical & electrical duties).
- Mechanical Fitter Training Programme – 12 months, leading to jobs that involve machinery maintenance and fitting.
What to do after the training
The advert lists “employment” as the exit outcome, but it does not guarantee a permanent contract. Use the training as a stepping‑stone:
- Complete the 12‑month NARYSEC training.
- Document the practical skills you acquire (photos, work logs, references).
- Search for recognised qualifications in solar PV or electrical engineering via the QCTO accredited provider database.
- Apply for entry‑level jobs, apprenticeships, or further learnerships in the renewable‑energy sector.
