Gert Sibande & AgriSETA 2026 Appr Welder Mechanical Fitter Electrician
Gert Sibande TVET College, together with AgriSETA, is offering three apprenticeship places for 2026. If you have finished Technical Grade 11, N2 Engineering Studies or NC(V) Level 4, this could be the practical step you need to start a career as a welder, mechanical fitter or electrician.
What the apprenticeship is
These are full‑time, paid apprenticeships that combine classroom learning at Gert Sibande TVET College with on‑the‑job training at recognised workplaces. The trades on offer are:
- Welder
- Mechanical Fitter
- Electrician
Each programme lasts the standard apprenticeship period (usually 2‑4 years) and leads to a recognised artisan qualification.
Who can apply
You must have one of the following qualifications, together with subjects that match the trade you choose:
- Technical Grade 11 (relevant subjects)
- N2 Engineering Studies (relevant subjects)
- NCV Level 4 (relevant subjects)
The term “relevant subjects” means the subjects should relate to the trade – for example, electrical theory for the electrician path, or metal‑working for welding.
What you will gain
Successful apprentices will receive:
- Structured learning at a public TVET college
- Hands‑on experience in real workplaces
- Earned wage during training
- A nationally recognised artisan qualification
- Better job prospects in manufacturing, mining, construction, agriculture and other sectors
How to apply – step by step
- Decide which trade you want – Welder, Mechanical Fitter or Electrician.
- Check that your Grade 11, N2 or NCV subjects match the chosen trade.
- Prepare the following documents:
- Curriculum Vitae (CV) that clearly states the trade you are applying for
- Uncertified copy of your ID
- Uncertified copies of all relevant qualifications
- If you are under 18, an uncertified ID copy of a parent or guardian
- Visit the Skills Academy and Artisan Development Centre in Standerton and hand‑deliver your complete application.
- Make sure the application is submitted before the deadline.
Tips to improve your chances
- Clearly title your CV with the exact name of the apprenticeship (e.g., “Welder Apprenticeship”).
- Double‑check that all copies are uncertified as the advertisement requests.
- Arrive early at the Standerton centre – plan transport if you live far away.
- Research the chosen trade on the SETA SA Career & Qualification Explorer to understand day‑to‑day duties and future prospects.

What happens after you apply?
If you do not hear back within 60 days after the closing date, you should assume the application was unsuccessful. Keep looking for other apprenticeships, learnerships, and internships while you wait.
Why an apprenticeship differs from a learnership
An apprenticeship leads to a recognised artisan trade. It combines formal technical study with supervised workplace training, and you earn a wage while you learn. A learnership usually provides a short‑term (often 12 months) skills experience and may not result in a trade qualification.
How AgriSETA supports this opportunity
AgriSETA is the sector education body for agriculture, but it also funds artisan‑development programmes. Modern farming relies on machinery, irrigation, and electrical systems, so trades like welding, mechanical fitting and electrical work are essential in the agricultural sector.
Next steps
Start by confirming that your subjects match the trade you want. Then gather the required documents, write a clear CV, and deliver your application to the Standerton centre before 18 September 2026. Use the SETA SA Career & Qualification Explorer to learn more about the day‑to‑day work of welders, mechanical fitters and electricians.
