JICS Correctional Centre Visitor Jobs 2026 – Apply by 6 Nov

You have your Matric certificate and you are looking for work – a new government opening that does not require a university degree is now available through the Judicial Inspectorate for Correctional Services (JICS). If you have applied for jobs before without a reply, this could be the chance you have been waiting for.

What the opportunity is

JICS is hiring 42 Independent Correctional Centre Visitor (ICCV) positions in 38 correctional centres across South Africa. The posts are on a 36‑month contract and pay R89 046 per year plus 37 % in lieu of benefits. The work is level 5 on a 3/8‑th basis.

Who can apply – eligibility

To be considered you must meet all of the following:

  • Grade 12 (Senior Certificate) – this is the only formal qualification required.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to work accurately.
  • A recent (no older than six months) recommendation or nomination from a recognised community organisation specifically for the ICCV role.
  • Good written and spoken communication skills.
  • Understanding of the Batho Pele principles (service, courtesy, transparency, etc.).
  • Ability to work independently, under pressure and as part of a team.
  • A driver’s licence is useful but not mandatory.
  • Preference is given to applicants who live close to the correctional centre they wish to serve.

What you gain – skills and experience

The role gives you exposure to public‑sector oversight. You will develop:

  • Complaint handling and record‑keeping.
  • Professional communication with inmates, officials and the public.
  • Report writing and basic statistical analysis.
  • Knowledge of public‑service accountability and the Batho Pele framework.
  • Teamwork and problem‑solving in a real‑world environment.

These skills are transferable to many future jobs in administration, community development, compliance and public service.

How to apply – step‑by‑step

  1. Choose a correctional centre. Look at the list below, find the centre nearest to you and note its reference number (e.g., Bizzah Makhate – JI 65/2026).
  2. Download the new Z83 application form. The form is available on the DPSA vacancy portal. Complete Sections A‑D fully and sign where required.
  3. Prepare your CV. Highlight your Matric result, computer skills, any volunteer work, and the competencies listed above.
  4. Obtain the community recommendation. Contact a local community organisation early. Explain the ICCV role and ask for a written recommendation dated within the last six months.
  5. Create one PDF file. Combine the signed Z83 form and your CV into a single PDF named with your surname and initials.
  6. Submit your application. Use the online Google Form that matches your chosen centre (see the link list at the end of this article) or hand‑deliver the PDF to the regional office listed for your centre.

Tips to improve your chances

  • Start early – obtain the community recommendation well before the deadline.
  • Proofread your CV and Z83 form; errors can lead to immediate disqualification.
  • Make sure the reference number on your form matches the centre you are applying for.
  • If you apply online, upload only the single PDF – do not attach extra files.
  • Submit before the closing time; server delays are not the recruiter’s responsibility.
