Gold One New Shelf 1186 (Gedex) Operations invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for its 2026 Bursary Programme. The closing date for applications is 2 January 2026.
What is the Gold One 2026 Bursary Programme?
Gold One, a well‑known gold‑mining company in Brakpan, a short drive east of Johannesburg, wants to give back to the community. The 2026 Bursary Programme is a scholarship‑like offer that pays for part of a student’s university costs. It’s meant for people who want to study subjects that help the mining and engineering industry grow.
Which subjects can you study?
Gold One is giving out 31 bursaries in total – 15 for people inside the company and 16 for anyone else who meets the rules. You can pick from these fields:
- Mining Engineering
- Geological & Earth Sciences
- Mechanical Engineering
- Metallurgical Science
- Financial Studies
- “Other” (only for Gold One employees or their families)
Who can apply from outside the company?
If you’re not a Gold One employee but want to study one of the above subjects, you must:
- Be registered at a South African university or college that is officially recognised.
- Show a copy of your registration certificate and a price quote that tells how much the course will cost.
- Have all your certificates signed by the South African Police Service (SAPS).
- Provide proof that your household income is low enough – this helps the selection process.
- Show that you live in the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality and, if possible, in one of these wards: Springs, Benoni, Brakpan or Nigel.
- Be a South African citizen.
- Upload all documents as PDF files only – no pictures or JPEGs.
Missing any of these documents will mean your application is not considered.
Who can apply from inside the company?
If you’re already a Gold One employee or you’re a close family member, you also need to:
- Fill out the Internal Application Form from the Talent & Administration (T & A) team.
- Be registered at a recognised South African institution.
- Show your registration proof and cost quote.
- Have worked at Gold One for at least one year as a permanent employee.
- Provide all documents in PDF format and have them SAPS‑certified.
What does the bursary pay for?
The bursary covers:
- Tuition fees
- Examination fees
- Books and other learning materials
- Accommodation in university‑run residences (the company pays this directly to the university)
What is not covered
The programme does not pay for:
- Monthly stipends or living money
- Transportation to and from the university
- Laptops or data plans
- Meals
- Short courses or extra training outside the main degree
How to apply
All applications must be sent online. Make sure every supporting document is a PDF – the system will reject anything else. Don’t send paper copies to HR or other staff; it will be lost or delayed.
- Go to the Gold One application link.
- Fill in all the required details.
- Attach the PDF files for registration, cost quote, household income proof, and any other needed docs.
- Review your information, then submit.

Why is this a great chance?
The mining and engineering sectors are essential to South Africa’s future. By studying these subjects, you’ll be ready for jobs that build our economy and give you a stable career. Plus, the bursary removes a big part of the cost barrier, letting you focus on learning rather than money worries.
If you’re from Ekurhuleni or the nearby towns of Springs, Benoni, Brakpan, or Nigel, you’ll have extra priority. This means you’re more likely to get a spot if you fit all the other rules.

Final reminder
- Apply before 2 January 2026 – after that, the programme will close.
- Keep all documents in PDF and SAPS‑certified.
- Remember, this offer is not a loan – you won’t owe the money back if you finish your studies.
Good luck, and if you’re ready to jump into mining, engineering, or finance, this bursary could be the first step toward a bright future.
