JICS Correctional Centre Visitor Vacancies 2026 – Apply by 30 Oct

If you need a government job but don’t have a university degree, the Judicial Inspectorate for Correctional Services (JICS) is offering a chance you should not miss. The deadline is fast approaching, so act now.

What the vacancy is

JICS is hiring Independent Correctional Centre Visitors (ICCV) for eight correctional centres across South Africa. These are 36‑month contract posts that pay R89 046 per year plus a 37 % allowance in lieu of benefits.

Who can apply

You must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Grade 12 / Senior Certificate
  • Basic computer skills and attention to detail
  • A recent (within six months) recommendation from a recognised community organisation
  • Good verbal and written communication
  • Ability to work alone and in a team
  • Public‑service values and familiarity with Batho Pele principles
  • Assertiveness and the capacity to handle pressure

A driver’s licence is helpful but not compulsory. No diploma, degree or specific years of experience are required.

What you gain

Working as an ICCV gives you:

  • Practical experience in public administration and complaints management
  • Exposure to the correctional system and community oversight
  • Skills in report writing, data capture and stakeholder communication
  • A solid reference for future jobs in justice, public service or community development

How to apply – step by step

Step 1 – Choose the correctional centre

Select the centre that matches where you live or where you can travel. Write down its reference number. Example: Boksburg Juvenile Correctional Centre – reference JI 59/2026.

Step 2 – Download the new Z83 form

The application must use the new Z83 form (effective from 1 January 2021). You can download it from the official South African government website. Do not use the old version.

Step 3 – Prepare your CV

Highlight any experience that shows the required competencies, such as:

  • Computer literacy and data entry
  • Record‑keeping or filing
  • Volunteer work, community projects or school leadership
  • Customer service or complaint handling
  • Teamwork and independent work

If you have no formal work history, describe relevant school or community activities.

Step 4 – Get the community recommendation

Approach a legitimate community organisation you are involved with. Ask for a written nomination for you as an ICCV. The letter must be dated within the last six months.

Do not buy or forge this document. If you are applying online, contact the regional JICS office to confirm how the recommendation should be submitted, because the online form only asks for the Z83 and your CV.

Step 5 – Create a single PDF

Combine the completed, initialed and signed Z83 form with your CV into one PDF file. Name the file with your surname and initials, e.g. Dlamini_N.pdf. Do not attach photos, scans of receipts or extra files.

Step 6 – Submit the application

Use the Google Forms link that matches your chosen centre (see the list below). Or hand‑deliver the PDF and hard‑copy documents to the regional office address indicated for your region.

Remember the two deadlines:

  • Hand‑delivery: 30 October 2026 by 16:00
  • Online: 30 October 2026 by 20:00

Submitting early gives you time to fix any technical problems.
