Stellenbosch Municipality Learner Fire Fighter – deadline 13 July 2026

What the opportunity is
The municipality is offering 12 Learner Fire Fighter positions on a 12‑month contract. The role is in the Fire & Rescue Services Department and is based in the Stellenbosch municipal area, Western Cape. Successful learners will work alongside experienced firefighters and take part in real emergency responses.

Who can apply (eligibility)
- Matric (Grade 12) certificate
- Proof of completion of a Fire Fighter Level 1 (FF1) course
- Medically, physically and mentally fit
- No criminal record
- Resident of the Stellenbosch municipal area – you must remain a resident for the whole contract
Shortlisted candidates will need to provide proof of residence, an affidavit confirming residency, and a criminal record check.
Additional skills and physical requirements
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to speak at least two official Western Cape languages
- Problem‑solving and teamwork abilities
- Emotional resilience and ability to work under pressure
- Physical fitness – no phobias of confined spaces, heights, deep water, blood, darkness, isolation or corpses
- Physical fitness test will be part of the selection process
- Having a valid Code B driver’s licence is an advantage, not a requirement
