TUT 2027 Undergraduate Applications: How to Apply, Fees & Deadlines
If you want to start studying at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) in 2027, the time to act is now – spaces fill fast and each programme has its own deadline. SETA SA can help you understand the process.
What the opportunity is
TUT is opening first‑year undergraduate places for the 2027 academic year. Applications began on 1 April 2026. The university offers more than 300 qualifications across seven faculties, ranging from engineering to design, business, health and the sciences.
Who can apply
- South African citizens with a National Senior Certificate (or equivalent) who are applying for the first time.
- International students – deadline 31 July 2026 and additional qualification evaluation may be required.
- Applicants must be able to pay the non‑refundable R240 application fee.
What you gain
Studying at TUT gives you nationally recognised qualifications, practical skills and access to industry networks. Graduates can move into engineering, IT, education, finance, tourism, design, agriculture and many other sectors that need skilled workers in South Africa.
How to apply – step by step
- Choose the programme you want. Check the specific admission requirements, campus and closing date.
- Collect all required documents:
- Certified copy of your ID or passport.
- Certified NSC certificate or final Grade 11 results if you are still completing Grade 12.
- Proof of payment of the R240 application fee.
- Create a personal email address that you control. Do not use anyone else’s address.
- Go to the official TUT portal and start a new application: Apply through TUT’s official portal.
- Enter your personal details, academic results and upload the certified documents.
- Pay the R240 fee using the bank details provided on the portal.
- Review every field carefully and submit the application.
Key dates and deadlines
- Applications opened: 1 April 2026.
- Some programmes close early – common dates are 15 June 2026 and 31 July 2026.
- Most January 2027 programmes accept applications until 30 September 2026, but they may close earlier if they fill up.
- International applications final date: 31 July 2026.
Application fee
The fee for first‑time undergraduate applicants is R240. It is paid once and is non‑refundable. Only use the payment details published on TUT’s official website. Do not hand money to anyone who promises a guaranteed place.
How to check your application status
After you submit, do not start another application. Instead, check the status on TUT’s iEnabler service. Enter your South African ID number (or, if you do not have one, use your surname, full name and date of birth). The system will show your reference number, current status and, if you are successful, an offer letter.

Funding options
NSFAS
NSFAS funding is separate from the TUT application. Create a myNSFAS profile, upload the requested documents and track your application there. As of 2 September 2026, the official NSFAS website has not yet published the exact opening and closing dates for the 2027 cycle, so keep checking regularly.
Other bursaries
TUT’s Directorate of Financial Aid manages internal bursaries such as Academic Merit, Sport, Leadership and Special Talent awards. The university also works with government departments, private companies and NGOs that offer external bursaries. Apply for every funding source you qualify for – never rely on a single award.
Student accommodation
If you need a residence, indicate this on your application. Allocation starts after you receive an academic offer, usually in November, and is first‑come‑first‑served. An academic offer does not automatically guarantee a room, so apply early.
Past exam papers
Past papers are useful for revision. TUT’s library provides a verified repository of older examination papers. Access may require a student login or library card. Use the papers to practice question style, timing and content, but always compare with the current module guide.
Tips to improve your chances
- Apply as soon as possible – programmes can close when they reach capacity.
- Meet not only the APS score but also the required subjects, achievement levels and campus preferences.
- Have all documents certified and ready before you start the online form.
- Pay the fee through the official TUT payment channel only.
- Check your application status regularly and respond quickly to any document requests.
- Submit NSFAS and other bursary applications as soon as the official dates are announced.
- Request accommodation early and keep your contact details up to date.
