Maths Graduate Institute is looking for suitable young people to apply for their Systems Administrator role. The closing date for applications is 30 June 2026.
What you’ll do every day
- Keep the servers humming – monitor, troubleshoot, and repair both physical and virtual hardware; manage ZFS storage and backups so nothing goes missing.
- Build the network – design and set up VPNs, VLANs, and wireless access points that keep lecturers and staff connected safely.
- Run virtual worlds – deploy and maintain KVM virtual machines and LXC/LXD containers, using configuration‑management tools to keep everything in sync.
- Handle the cloud – administer Google Workspace (users, groups, Drive, Sites) so the institute’s digital tools stay smooth.
- Help your mates – offer Tier‑1 support for lecturers and staff who need quick fixes on networking or server software.
- Document everything – keep clear, up‑to‑date records of the network layout, server configs, and any software deployments.
This job is perfect if you’re a recent grad or a tech‑savvy student who wants to see the whole IT stack in action and grow into a senior role over time.
Who can apply?

| Advanced networking | Experience with Radius/Eduroam, VXLAN, NFS. |

| Cloud & storage | Have run Google Workspace or managed ZFS before. |
Age – 18 + (no upper limit).
