South African small businesses are now feeling the pressure to reach customers beyond our borders, and the window to do it is opening fast. The W&RSETA has funded a new programme that can help you sell online to the world.

What is the programme?

The W&RSETA‑funded 2026 SMME Development Programme – International E‑Commerce Training is a three‑month course that teaches wholesale and retail owners how to trade online internationally. It runs from September to December 2026 and is paid for by W&RSETA.

Who can apply?

  • Age: 35 years or younger
  • Business type: Registered company in the wholesale or retail sector
  • Operating history: At least one year of registration and activity
  • Turnover: Minimum annual revenue of R60 000
  • Interest: You must show a genuine desire to use e‑commerce for growth

What will you gain?

The training covers the basics and the advanced parts of selling abroad:

  • How to set up and manage online stores
  • Using digital marketplaces and global payment methods

How to apply (step‑by‑step)

    • Certified copy of South African ID
    • Certified copy of passport
    • Company registration papers (CIPC)
    • Recent financial statements
    • Matriculation certificate
  2. Prepare any extra documents that may be asked for after selection:
    • Medical certificate (Chinese standards)
    • Police clearance certificate
