Dive Into a Rewarding Summer Career: 35 Seasonal Lifeguard Posts at Buffalo City Municipality for 2025/2026

The Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for the Seasonal Lifeguard vacancies. The closing date for applications is the 31 October 2025.
What We’re Looking For
- Job title: Seasonal Lifeguard (35 positions)
- Grade: 6A
- Salary: R23,990.25 per month
- Contract dates: 1 December 2025 to 31 January 2026
- Reference number: 167/25
We need people who love the beach, can stay calm in a rush, and want to keep everyone safe while they enjoy the waves. If you’re at least 16 years old and fit the same qualifications, we want to hear from you.
Key Things You’ll Do
- Rescue beachgoers: Grab a rope or use a lifeboat if someone is in trouble.
- Watch the beach: Keep an eye on crowds, surf, and weather.
- Give first aid: Treat cuts or sprains right there on the sand.
- Use rescue tools: Operate inflatable boats, nets, and other safety gear.
- Manage crowds: Help keep crowds organized and play a helper‑police role when needed.
All of this means you must stay alert, work well with friends, and keep a calm head even when things get hectic.
What You Need to Apply
- School proof – a grade 10 certificate is enough.
- Surging hero badge – you must have a Surf Proficiency Award certificate.
- Ready for work – a valid retest certificate.
- One year of lifesaving experience – you need to show you’ve saved a body of water before.
You should send us:
- A clear Curriculum Vita简历 that shows what you’ve done.
- A short cover letter explaining why you want to be a lifeguard.
- Copies of your certificates and ID that are no older than six months, fully legit.
If the documents match our list and look real, we’ll give you a chance. Fake papers or false claims will get you out of the list and could get you in trouble with the law.
How We Pick the Best Candidates
- Some applicants may have to go through a driving or fitness test before the main interview.
- If you do not hear anything in 28 days after the 31 October deadline, your application was not successful.
- We can decide not to fill all the spots if we don’t need that many lifeguards.
Where to Send Your Application
- Hand it in: Human Resources, Buxton House, Buxton Street, East London.
- Post: Directorate of Corporate Services, P.O. Box 134, East London, 5200.
